Summary:
Suffolk County Council commenced proposals to
redevelop part of Great Yarmouth College building
and its grounds. James Blake Associates were appointed by Archial Architects in 2009.
The proposed landscape comprises several functional spaces with the main entrance and the main courtyard being particularly emphasized by the ground graphics and contemporary planting.
One major outdoor classroom and several other smaller seating areas are surrounded with functional and easily maintainable greenery for amenity, shade, and shelter. Changes in levels have been utilized to create an informal amphitheatre.
The whole design is unified by ground art that references science, local history, geography and art. Marine theme weaves along footpaths and is supported by strong references to artists whose work is associated with the sea.
