Scope of Work:
Landscape Architecture
Ecology

Suffolk Coastal District Council (SCDC) commenced proposals to redevelop the South Seafront in 1998, as part of the wider regeneration of Felixtowe. Bloor Homes, with JBA as Landscape Architects were confirmed as preferred bidders in 2000.

Planning consent was granted by SCDC in 2009. The proposed maritime park includes play areas, formal and informal gardens, an events space and associated facilities. Martello Tower 'P' is the focus of the site. The seafront setting influenced the design approach, with an emphasis on natural and coastal materials and planting, including a spine of shingle dunes which links the elements within the site.

Summary
Planting scheme for residential development using JBA philosophy of planting design emphasising the use of colour, form and texture to create interesting frontages and spaces with all year round interest.

Through the course of the project JBA has -
• Undertaken extensive site assessment, research and analysis;
• Developed concepts and masterplans informed to meet an evolving SCDC brief;
• Made presentations to SCDC and associated groups;
• Completed public engagements;
• Consulted English Heritage and prepared information for Scheduled ancient Monument and Listed Building Consent;
• Participated in the public art Steering Group;
• Prepared all necessary contract documents;

The implementation of the scheme is pending completion of the coastal defence works.
