Client:
London Borough of Tower Hamlets
Scope of Work:
Closure of Cambridge Road in Tower Hamlets led to pedestrianisation of this area. We changed the road to a pedestrian way. A matter which needed critical consideration was drainage which was solved by the use of a water bound surface for half the area.
Summary:
Creating a simple unified surface in a pedestrian area on a very low budget. This was achieved by using Breedon Gravel (water bound gravel surface) for areas either side of emergency access corridor: Granite setts were used around trees butt jointed with grit jointing to allow water penetration to the roots. It would have been great to have had the budget to paint the railings and bollards.
