South Seafront, Felixstowe

Site Summary: This scheme involved the masterplanning of a maritime park and residential housing scheme, part of the wider regeneration envisaged for the South Seafront area of Felixstowe, providing a strategic link between the main beach resort and Landguard Fort.  The site, currently a waste ground will provide e family park  focused around a Martello Tower (Scheduled Ancient Monument and Listed Building), and will include play areas for a variety of ages, formal and informal gardens, an events space, provision of toilets and refreshment facilities, preservation and creation of coastal shingle habitat (incorporating an existing County Wildlife Site) and parking for over 250 cars.

  Work completed included:

  • Phase 1 Ecology Habitat Survey followed by a detailed floral survey of coastal shingle habitat, incorporating County Wildlife Site and Reptile Survey
  • Preparation of Masterplan with close liaison with the Felixstowe South Seafront Land
  • Design Committee, Felixstowe South Seafront Regeneration Committee & Felixstowe Town Council
  • Presentation to Task Group & SCDC Cabinet to gain approval for planning submission
  • Preparation of presentation boards and attendance at Public Exhibitions including incorporation of comments following consultation
  • Wider consultation including English Heritage regarding Martello Tower for Listed Building and Scheduled Ancient Monument Consent
  • Completion of Detailed Hard and  Soft Landscape scheme, including play areas,  management plan for public areas, specification documents, planting plans and construction details
  • Strategy for Public Art
